NZ Net survey

As mentioned last time, I have created a short online survey to help improve the NZ Net, and I hope you’ll take a few minutes to complete it. There are only 10 questions. The survey will remain open for the next fortnight, and you can access it at:

Memorial Contest

It was nice to hear some of our NZ Net “regulars” participating in last weekend’s Memorial Contest. While the SSB ops were kept busy, it was a bit quiet down in the CW sub band, so please consider joining in next year. Memorial Contest is always the first full weekend in July.

Night of Nights at KPH

Once a year, the volunteers at San Francisco Radio KPH (and amateur station K6KPH) keep their large collection of CW transmitters on the air late into the night. Hours of operation are 0000Z Sat 13 Jul to approx 0700Z. Details: radiomarine.org

Otherwise, you can generally copy KPH and K6KPH on Sunday mornings NZ time on various frequencies. Signal reports are welcome, and can be sent as formal traffic to K6KPH.

IARU Contest

There should be lots of CW (and SSB) this weekend in the annual IARU HF contest for 24 hours, starting at 1200Z 13 July. Maybe add a few new countries to the log? Details: iaru.org

Net tip: If NCS is not available

Last evening we had a power outage in my neighbourhood from about 5pm to almost 9.15pm, so I couldn’t get on the air.

In cases such as this, any station is welcome (encouraged) to take charge of the net. Here’s how:

1. If you hear nothing on 3535.0 at 9pm, tune up and down a few kHz in case the net has moved due to local QRM.
2. If nothing heard, send a QND? or QNN? on 3535.0.
3. If no reply by 9.01pm, you’re in charge.
4. At the next opportunity, please send me a message listing the stations that checked in.
